How are your New Year’s resolutions coming?

Pillows, sheets and blankets are an essential part of our daily work in our domestic violence shelter.
Pillows, sheets and blankets are an essential part of our daily work in our domestic violence shelter.

At Cheyenne River Indian Outreach, we are grateful to be able to accept nearly any gift that comes our way. You see, in our women’s shelter and in our youth center, we try to create a home environment. Anything you can use in your home, we can use in ours.

This includes things you might not expect, like a blow dryer, curling iron or electric hair straightener. Of course, these aren’t necessary for women who come to the shelter or for establishing a home of their own. But, when it seems your whole life is crumbling around you, being able to care for yourself and feel you look nice can be a great boost of confidence.

What other simple, unexpected things help you prepare for your day?

If you’ve ever spent time around children, you know how important and loved a toy can be. You also know that little ones require a little more specialized equipment than older kids. At Cheyenne River Indian Outreach, we can always make good use of:

Drawing supplies: all ages
High chairs
Small baby cribs
Disposable diapers: all sizes

Right now, our shelter needs:

Clock radios
Night-lights
Sports bras: all sizes
Winter clothing: coats, gloves and hats in all sizes for women and children
Twin bedding: mattress pads, sheets, comforters and pillows
Dishcloths
Dishtowels
Bath towels
Hand towels
Wash cloths

And here’s a list of things we always need on hand, and can never really have too much of:

Women’s underwear
Women’s socks
Liquid hand soap
Dish soap
Freezer bags: all sizes
Laundry soap
Dryer sheets
Facial tissue
Women’s deodorant
Hair brushes & combs
Hair ties

Just like in your home, we enjoy relaxing with a game or movie.
